from Alexander von Wiedenbeck
As a photographer you capture a host of moments in your life, in fact thousands of photographs accumulate over the years. Some are quite acceptable, others a bit better. The more intensively you grapple with the same motifs time and time again over the years the more you take them for granted. Simply imagine what it’s like to work on an exhibition with accompanying exhibition catalogue. You work with the same photographs day in day out for months, you look at them anew time and time again until at some point even the moment in the photograph may slip into the background leaving just the object as such.
However, totally the opposite may actually happen, the intensity of feelings, memories may increase. The feeling that you associate with that moment you experienced grows constantly becoming a permanent part of your own personality. You define your own life experience through your own photographs.
The artist’s choice reflects precisely these photographs. The pictures that have resulted over many years and have increasingly become part of me myself. Photographs which it’s hard to imagine life without and that create a permanent and irreversible bond between the photographer and moment, beyond their lifetime – those are my artist’s choice photographs.
